Students at Sunny Pointe Elementary recently raised more than $1,800 for United Way of Greater Kansas City. For their efforts, the Pumas were rewarded with an administrative Salvy Splash. Principal Cassie Gengelbach got a double-splash when assistant principal Allison Spencer was let off the hook. Great to see our students and teachers caring about helping the local community.

Students at James Walker Elementary received a welcome surprise when it was unveiled their school was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Only eight schools in the state of Missouri are chosen to apply for Blue Ribbon status and JWE marks the fifth Blue Springs School District school to receive this prestigious honor in the last four years.

Each year, the Student Senates at both Blue Springs and Blue Springs South High Schools take part in the “Got Sole” initiative, helping collect donations of new shoes and socks at the beginning of the school year. The items are collected by BSSD schools and donated to The Closet and then distributed to students in need. Got Sole has provided more than 1,300 pairs of shoes the past four years and this year added 370 pairs, along with numerous pairs of socks. William Bryant and Franklin Smith Elementaries each doubled their goals while Blue Springs South gathered 57 pairs of shoes.

Epic Church Donates Supplies
EPIC Church Donates Supplies

Representatives of EPIC Church dropped off supplies for every Kindergarten class Thursday morning. Four years ago, EPIC first donated Kindergarten supplies to classes at William Yates Elementary. The past three years, EPIC has donated school supplies to all Blue Springs School District elementary schools and provided funding for Liggett Trail Education Center to obtain supplies. This year, EPIC provided more than 1,200 sets of supplies to schools and donated $3,000 to LTEC for its students.

Students, staff and community members were able to get an early look at the Blue Springs South High School Freshman addition during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday. The ceremony included a performance by the Jaguar Pride marching band. With classes starting next week, we can't wait to put the finishing touches on and welcome the freshmen to their new home.
