    Asbestos Notice

    District Patrons:

In 1986, Congress passed the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). In the past, asbestos was used extensively in building materials because of its insulating and fire-retardant capabilities. Virtually any building built before the late 1970’s contains at least some asbestos. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began action to limit uses of asbestos products in 1973, and most use of asbestos products as building materials was banned in 1978.

The AHERA law requires all schools, kindergarten through twelfth grade, to be inspected every 3 years to identify any asbestos-containing building materials. The law further requires the development of a Management Plan that is based upon the finds of the certified inspection and to outline our intent to control the potential for exposure to asbestos fibers in our school.

The Blue Springs School District is in full government compliance. Our inspection took place in October 2019. Our tri-annual re-inspection will take place in 2022. We are intent on not only complying with, but exceeding federal, state, and local regulations in this area. We plan to take whatever steps are necessary to insure your children and our employees have a healthy, safe environment in which to learn and work.

A copy of the AHERA Management Plan is on file in all Blue Springs School District school’s front offices and in the Director of Buildings and Grounds Office located at 5395 W 40 Hwy, Blue Springs, MO for your review during regular office hours.

    Sincerely,
    Seth Shippy
    Director of Buildings & Grounds
    Blue Springs School District

  • About Student Services
In accordance with our goal to make the Blue Springs School District web site both informative and relevant, we have made available information and resources for students and parents. Below you will find more information concerning some of the more common questions / requests made by parents and students alike.

    Transcripts and Records
High school transcripts and immunization records may be obtained by written request only from your school of graduation and/or attendance. Contact Blue Springs High School Counseling Office, 2000 NW Ashton Drive, Blue Springs, MO 64015 (816-229-3459) or Blue Springs South High School Counseling Office, 1200 SE Adams Dairy Parkway, Blue Springs, MO 64014 (816-224-1315). There is a $4.00 fee, per request, for copies of student transcripts or immunizations. Persons who received a GED must contact the Department of Adult Education in Jefferson City, Missouri at 1-573-751-1249.

    In-district Transfers
All kindergartners and new students must go to their home servicing school to initially enroll prior to applying for an in-district transfer. A special permission transfer is considered a privilege. Cooperation with the school, good student behavior, punctuality and regular attendance are responsibilities of the parents and student. If at any time during the school year these conditions are not met, the permission may be revoked. In-district transfers are approved for a one-year period and must be renewed annually by request with the building principal. In-district approved students may be assigned to a class at their present building in the spring if the parent/guardian intends to renew the status for the following school year. In-district transfer request forms may be obtained at the elementary or middle school building. All transfers are subject to review at any time if circumstances change. Class size is a factor on whether a transfer is approved. By board policy, high school students (grades 9-12) wishing to transfer within the district are required to request a change of site form from their building principal.

    Work Permit

State law requires work certificates be issued by the superintendent’s office or his designee for students age 14 and 15. A permit can be obtained at the principal’s office of the student’s school. The certificate must be completed by the student, by student’s parent, and employer, then returned to the principal’s office for approval. The original copy is returned to the employer, one copy is kept in the principal’s office, and one copy is sent to the Department of Labor Standards in Jefferson City, Missouri

  • Welcome to the Department of Transportation

FOCUSED ON KIDS AND SAFETY FIRST

The transportation staff is committed to providing a safe, caring and efficient service to the students of the Blue Springs Schools. Students who cannot comply with the following regulations may be denied the privilege of riding the bus.

The latest technology is used to assure our students have the best transportation available and parents can access the information necessary. Transfinder is a program that allows our parents and students to look up bus stops in the neighborhoods and determine not only the best stop location but the pick-up time. The Transportation Office is located at 200 S.E. U.S. 40, Blue Springs, MO 64014 and may be reached by phone at 816-874-3799.

    BUS STOP LOCATIONS

Bus stops are designated in each housing addition. To facilitate the loading process, students should be at their stop at least 5 minutes prior to pick up time. Transportation attempts to keep bus rides less than 30 minutes each way (i.e., times vary depending on residence proximity to the school). If a parent or guardian would like to request a change in the bus stop location, please download and review the Stop Change Request Form.

Routes are created keeping the safety of our students, employees and our fleet at the forefront of decision making.  Our district is a wonderful blend of some established areas, as well as some brand-new areas.  To keep our students from being involved in accidents, Transportation reserves the right to refuse to navigate areas of the district which may be considered unsafe or more prone to accidents.  This includes cul-de-sacs, private drives, dead ends and other areas where the bus driver's ability to navigate safely is diminished.  Additionally, students must obey the driver's directions at all times. Unruly or discourteous behavior on the bus may result in the suspension of bus riding privileges.

    TRANSPORTATION GUIDELINES

    WINTER DRESS POLICY

The Transportation Department reminds you of our winter dress policy for all of our buses in the district. We require that Blue Springs School District students riding any route or trip bus to wear warm clothes, socks, shoes, and a winter coat in order to board the bus. Although we attempt to maintain an excellent and safe fleet of buses, a school bus may experience a problem that forces it to shut down during the route or trip. During the winter months our weather can be extremely cold and unpredictable. Therefore, we ask that you make sure your children are properly dressed for the winter weather. Students riding an extracurricular trip bus are also required to bring a warm blanket. Students who are not properly dressed may be denied bus boarding and transportation services.

    Severe Clause

Violations which may be subject to immediate suspension from the bus include, but are not limited to:

    • Having tobacco products, drugs or drug paraphernalia on the bus.
    • Throwing objects in or at the bus.
    • Having dangerous items, such as knives or sharp blades, on the bus.
    • Foul or abusive language toward the driver.
    • Damaging the bus, such as cutting seats, etc.
    • Fighting on the bus.
    • Creating a safety hazard for the entire bus.
  • Welcome to the Technology Department
The Blue Springs Technology Department is the support structure to assist in the preparation of students for a technologically changing world. Through interactive learning, students will acquire knowledge and skills that enable them to gather, integrate, analyze and apply information and ideas across all curricular areas.

In compliance with state and federal mandates and to assure we are effectively meeting the needs of our learners, the Blue Springs School District has developed a long-range technology plan. This plan includes both short and long term goals, the strategies for improving academic achievement and teacher effectiveness, and how education technologies will be used in meeting these goals. This plan has been approved through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education with an exemplary rating.
