Honors Course Information

Honor courses are taught at an accelerated pace and at an advanced level of difficulty, with the goal of preparing more students for the rigorous fast paces of high school Advanced Placement and dual credit classes.

    • Students may go back and forth between honors and on-level science courses each year
    • Honors and on-level science courses both follow the same content in the same order, but honors goes more in depth with the material
    • Work completion expectations of honors may help to prepare students for honors science classes in high school, but are not required as a prerequisite
    • Reading, writing, and math skills are applied to science courses; honors requires a strong foundation in all three
    • On-level Social Studies and Honors Social Studies follow the same content in the same order, but honors goes more in depth
    • Honors Social Studies will benefit from a strong foundation in reading and writing skills
    • Students are not locked into the honors or on-level path throughout middle school

  • Honors Consideration:
Students who demonstrate advanced literacy skills, including those who meet or are approaching a minimum RIT score of 215 on the NWEA Growth Measure Assessment and maintain a consistent A/B average in their current or previous year's reading course, may consider enrolling in 6th Grade Honors Reading.

In the English department, it is not a requirement to take an honors course in any given year to take an honors course in the future.
