  • 0.5 BSSD Credit Hours, 3 College Credit Hours

    ENG 110: Writing I  - An introduction to college-level writing in which students develop critical reading and writing skills.  The emphasis in reading has students locating, evaluating, and synthesizing information in an analytical and ethical manner. The emphasis in writing develops students’ understanding of the ways writers generate and express ideas for different purposes to various kinds of audiences across a range of contexts, including social, academic, and professional. Students work on argumentation, rhetorical analysis, and editing for clarity, style, and conventions.  This course offers the possibility of earning three (3) college credit hours in English Composition through MSU. Students must meet the enrollment criteria established by MSU.  One (1) honor point will be earned for successful completion of this class. 

    *ENG 110 cannot be taken concurrently with ENG 200.
     

  • 0.5 BSSD Credit Hours, 3 College Credit Hours

    ENG 200: Great Books and Instant Classics – The works that society calls its “great books” tell us much about how the society views itself.  Popular forms of linguistic expression, though sometimes less celebrated, similarly reflect a culture’s sense of itself.  Examining a range of texts, time-honored and otherwise, from numerous critical perspectives, this course explores how literatures reflect the values of the societies that create and enjoy them. Appropriate for students in all majors.

    *ENG 200 cannot be taken concurrently with ENG 110.
     

  • 0.5 BSSD Credit Hours, 3 College Credit Hours

    FIN 150: Personal Finance - This course explores practical financial skills necessary for young adults to survive after high school.  They will study banking, budgeting, investing, credit card use, insurance, and home and automobile purchases.  They will learn job hunting skills by creating resumes and cover letters as well as participating in a mock interview.  This course is required for graduation by the State of Missouri as well as the Blue Springs School District.  Membership and participation in FBLA, an association for business students, will be encouraged.  Twenty percent of the grade is assigned through MSU coursework.  Three (3) hours of dual credit available through MSU if college’s criteria are met.

  • 0.5 BSSD Credit Hours, 3 College Credit Hours

    HST 121: American History - This is a chronological review of American history (Exploration through Reconstruction).  All course materials are written using a college-level vocabulary. Students will be expected to read 20-30 pages of material per week.  One (1) honor point will be earned for successful completion of this class.  The MSU fee is required to earn the dual credit.  Students will be billed directly by MSU.  Students who withdraw after the first five days will still be billed by MSU and will have to pay some portion of tuition fees to MSU.  Students who successfully complete both American History 121 and American History 122 (2 semesters) can fulfill the U.S. History graduation requirements.  Students enrolled in American History 121/122 (College Credit) are not eligible to enroll in AP U.S. History for additional high school credit.  Three (3) hours of dual credit are also available through MSU if college’s criteria are met.

    HST 122: American History  - This is a chronological review of American history (Gilded Age through the 1970s).  All course materials are written using a college-level vocabulary.  Students will be expected to read 20-30 pages of material per week.  One (1) honor point will be earned for successful completion of this class.  Three (3) hours of dual credit are available through MSU.  Students will be billed directly by MSU.  Students who withdraw after the first five days will still be billed by MSU and will have to pay some portion of tuition fees to MSU. Students who successfully complete both American History 121 and American History 122 (2 semesters) can fulfill the U.S. History graduation requirements.   Students enrolling in American History 121/122 (college credit) are not eligible to enroll in AP US History for additional high school credit.  Three (3) hours of dual credit are also available through MSU if college’s criteria are met.

    IDS 118: Enhancing Learning Techniques for College and Life - Designed for any student who wishes to develop stronger study and learning techniques such as note taking, test taking and preparation, time management, text study, memory, and concentration.

  • 0.5 BSSD Credit Hours, College Credit earned at completion of Zoology II

    AG 108: Zoology I - This two week course allows you to go behind the scenes, meet Animal Care Specialists, and learn about animal research. The bus leaves the BSSHS campus at 7:30 a.m. and returns at 3:45 p.m. A district provided TB test is required; appointment date and time to be determined. The course runs Monday through Friday, June 1–12.

    0.5 BSSD Credit Hours, 1 College Credit Hour

    AG 108: Zoology II - This two-week course allows you to dive into biodiversity field studies and explore ecological issues related to global conservation. The bus leaves the BSSHS campus at 7:30 a.m. and returns at 3:45 p.m. A district-provided TB test is required; appointment dates and times to be determined.  The course runs Monday through Friday June 15- 26.  

    Zoology 1 is the pre-requisite**

  • English 110 & 200 Students must be a junior or senior with a 3.0 or high GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Personal Finance, IDS, History and Zoology courses require 3.0 GPA or 2.5-2.99 GPA with recommendation from teacher or guidance counselor.
  • Courses will be 5 days a week/3 hours of work required daily.
  • MSU - $70.00 per college credit hour for dual credit.
  • Last day for students to drop course with MSU for 100% refund – June 26 (4:00 pm) – EXCEPTION: *(HIST 121 - Contact MSU for dates)
  • Last day for students to drop course with MSU for 50% refund – July 10 (4:00 pm) – EXCEPTION: *(HIST 122 - Contact MSU for dates)
  • MSU students who qualify for the Free & Reduced lunch program are eligible to receive up to 6 hours of tuition through MSU. 
  • All courses are subject to enrollment.  If courses do not have a minimum enrollment of 10 students, course offerings may be cancelled.
  • Internet access is required throughout the duration of the course. This platform cannot be accessed outside of the United States.
  • A maximum of 1 credit (2 classes) may be earned for original credit in the summer.
  • Summer school courses have an impact on your GPA and class ranking.
