Accent on Academics

BSSD honored high school students with cumulative grade point averages of 3.5 or higher in annual Accent on Academics ceremonies. Celebrations took place for each grade level 9-12 at both Blue Springs and Blue Springs South high schools.
Grades 9-11 are honored during the day while the senior class is recognized at candlelit dinners at each school’s commons area.
This year, more than 1,800 students were recognized, with 802 carrying cumulative 4.0 or higher GPAs. Each senior event included inspirational speeches. BSSHS teacher Nathan Dorsch spoke at South’s dinner, and BSHS teacher Jessica Tichacek spoke to the Wildcats and guests. Dr. Marlaine Boyd also provided words from a parent to Wildcat seniors.
Dorsch told students that success is measured in vastly different ways. “You are successful in how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live, regardless of the challenges life may present. And failures are not the end of our stories, but opportunities to grow, learn, and find our own paths to success.”
Tichacek said BSHS seniors are ready for the next tasks in their lives. “The unknown and walking through the unknown is a part of the journey that you are all about to face,” she said. “But I believe that everyone here is ready for that journey. Don’t be afraid to take risks, ask for help, and define your own success – not judging your success off the successes of others.”
Congratulations to all these students and their families.
