Jillian Littlejohn Named 2025-2026 Blue
Springs School District Teacher of the Year
One thing Cordill-Mason Elementary first grade teacher Jillian Littlejohn had to do after being named the BSSD 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year was sit her class down and tell them just what the honor entailed.
“After receiving the award, several students told me how much they would miss me next year assuming I wouldn’t be returning,” Littlejohn said. “I reassured them that I’m still very much a part of CME. While first graders may not fully grasp the significance of the award, their excitement has been contagious.”
Littlejohn’s surprise was genuine when she received the award at the annual Teacher of the Year Breakfast.
Littlejohn, a 17-year member of BSSD, was selected from 22 Building Teachers of the Year. Each honoree was celebrated by their principal and received congratulations from Board of Education members. After Littlejohn was named District Teacher of the Year, she hurried back to CME, where students and staff awaited her with signs, hugs and lots of cheers.
“I hadn’t anticipated this at all and am deeply honored to be recognized among such incredible educators,” said Littlejohn, who will now compete for the 2025-2026 Regional Teacher of the Year.
“As teachers, we often become so immersed in the day-to-day work of caring for our students that we rarely pause to look beyond our own classrooms or schools. This recognition has connected me with so many inspiring colleagues and reminded me that across every school in Blue Springs, there are kind, passionate and dedicated educators putting students first every single day.”
CME Principal Jaclyn Brunk said Littlejohn is dedicated to making connections with her students and teaching others that skill.
“Jill has transformed countless lives throughout her years of teaching,” CME Principal Jaclyn Brunk said. “Jill never gives up on a student, and she coaches others on how to do the same. I have always known her greatness, and I am so proud that her greatness can be shared with others.”
