Janice Smith - December 2025

Janice Smith is the December Employee of the Month. Janice is the Prime Time Site Lead at James Walker Elementary and has been with BSSD for 24 years.
Janice works tirelessly with students and staff to ensure smooth transitions into the school day, creating an environment where every child can have the best possible start. Her patience and caring nature make her a trusted support for students who need a little extra love. It’s not uncommon to see Janice welcoming a child into her office for a few minutes of calm and reassurance, helping ease anxiety and setting them up for success.
Her dedication goes beyond the school day — Janice spends weekends preparing materials and plans so her students and staff can have an amazing week ahead.
JWE Principal Casey Brownsberger said, “Janice Smith has been an integral part of our district, and her impact continues to shine brighter every day. Janice is truly the sweetest, kindest person you will ever meet, and her unwavering commitment to putting kids first sets her apart. Parents know that when they are in a bind, Janice is always there to help —her reliability and compassion are unmatched.”
JWE Literacy Coach Lyda McMurray added, “Janice is one of those people who makes our school feel like home. She is kind to everyone she meets and always ready with a smile or a helping hand. Janice works harder than anyone we know. She’s here early, she’s here late, and yes, even on many weekends, making sure things are taken care of. Janice isn’t just doing a job — she’s making a difference.”
Assistant Principal Miranda White said, “Janice doesn’t just do her job; she elevates it. She sets students up for success every single day and does it with grace, love, and unwavering dedication. Janice creates a space where students can decompress and feel valued, which is critical to their growth and success throughout their school day. She embodies what it means to put kids first.”
Congratulations to Janice, the December Employee of the Month.
