Fabulous 50!

Generations of Cordill-Mason Elementary Cougars came together to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary during a special event at CME. Visitors ranged from future Cougars to members of the first CME staff from 1976.
The night included tables of memories including yearbooks, news articles, and photographs throughout the years. Current staff met with former staff and students while past principals Al Michelson, Floyd Dunaway and Cassie Gengelbach also joined the celebration. Dunaway was CME’s first principal in 1976.
Members of the Cougar Choir entertained a packed house with renditions of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “Celebration,” and the CME school song, written by choir director Robyn Padget.
CME fifth grade student Shakira H. and fifth grade teacher Abigail Downing took the crowd through CME’s history by sharing tales of their time as Cougars. Downing is a former CME student and returned to the school as part of the Grow Your Own Teachers program.
Michelson spoke about his time as CME principal and the amazing support the school has received from students, staff and parents throughout the years. He honored the legacy of academic success and community involvement CME has always enjoyed.
Congratulations to the entire CME family present and past for 50 great years.
