Construction at Daniel Young Elementary    The beginning of the 2019-2020 school year brought many changes and improvements provided by the passing of the 2018 No Tax Rate Increase Bond. The school year began with many construction projects finished or near completion, and as the calendar turns to 2020, projects provided by the bond issue are coming to fruition. Large projects at each of our high schools, multipurpose buildings at three elementary schools and additional classrooms at Liggett Trail Education Center are progressing or set to begin.
“We have had good weather this fall and winter, and we can check off a lot of those boxes wrapping up the projects provided by the bond issue,” Blue Springs School District Assistant Superintendent of Management Services Jason Woolf said. “We are working hard on the projects at hand and are excited about what they will provide.”
The projects include work at both Blue Springs and Blue Springs South High Schools. At BSHS, the construction of a new fine arts space and gymnasium continues with a June 1 completion goal. The school will also have a new media center/library, which has begun construction and has a goal of being open for the start of the 2020-21 school year.
Blue Springs South’s large freshman wing addition is complete with a new gym in use. Construction on a new Jag Center is ongoing. The building is a high wind shelter that will include a multiuse theater and lobby. The space can be used by theater classes, band activities or other classrooms. The projected completion is set for April of 2020.
Three elementary schools will have new multipurpose buildings by the 2020-21 school year. Construction is ongoing at William Yates, Daniel Young and William Bryant. Each multipurpose building will be able to withstand an EF-5 storm, and along with the new buildings, traffic flow improvements will be created at WYE and DYE.
Another project looking to break ground in March is an addition of 14 classrooms and a small multipurpose room at Liggett Trail Education Center to house students ages birth to four years old. The completion goal is January of 2021.
