Community Unity Week 2021

"It's really cool that we're able to come together to make a bigger impact on our district and our city."

~Alex Isaelite, Blue Springs South High School Student Senate

The Blue Springs School District once again rose to the occasion and displayed its spirit of giving during Community Unity Week. Last week, the district held its annual drive for donations to the Community Service League, culminating in the Blue Springs High School versus Blue Springs South High School varsity football game.

Students, staff, and community members collect non-perishable items and monetary donations for local families in need. Through Community Unity Week efforts, CSL manager Melodie Chrisman said local families will benefit for several months.

This year, the BSSD collected 77,436 items (a 13,000 increase over last year) and more than $6,200 in donations. Not only did our schools and parents step up to contribute, but several local businesses also donated shares of their sales.

For the BSSD, the elementary school with the most donations was Voy Spears, Jr with 10,790 items. Paul Kinder Middle School collected 4,781 and Blue Springs South High School totaled 6,892. Thank you to our staff, students, and community for all you do every year during Community Unity Week.
