This past week, Blue Springs South High School held it’s annual Bowls for Souls event, a school community effort to raise money to combat local hunger. Organizer and BSSHS art teacher Carlee Martin said in reflection, “It’s really neat to be able to get the whole community together. The teachers come, the admins come, and parents and students, and we have past students coming back from college, and that just warms my heart.”

Student groups including Senate, culinary classes, DECA and the baseball team, all pitched in. Months of planning culminate the one evening lasting a couple of hours, but the impact is much greater.

This year alone, the Jags sold 250 bowls and raised over $3,000 to support food pantries, charitable organizations and underprivileged families.
