We provide our students with the most effective instruction to meet each and every student’s need. And every year, we see our students far surpass their goals and reach heights that set the standard for the next group of graduates. The district is proud of the return on investment for our community.
2015 - Current Highlights
  •   4 Murals created for Downtown Alive! Through the high school art departments courtesy a grant from Truman Heartland Foundation
  •   BSHS Debate placed 18th in the nation (fact check that)
  •   BSSHS had the largest DECA program in the state during the 15-16 school year
  •   Morgan Payton chosen as 1 of 6 to be the Kansas City Regional Teachers of the Year
  •  BSHS named a Speech School of Honor at the national speech and debate tournament
  •   Last Saturday, July 23, the Jaguars competed in the MCCA (Missouri Cheerleading Coaches Association) Kansas City Regional competition hosted at Lee’s Summit North High School.  Blue Springs South Varsity Cheer is the 2016 SuperLarge Division Regional Champion.  Our JV team finished in 2nd place in the JV Division.  Both teams will compete in the MCCA State Championships at the Hearnes Center at Mizzou on November 5 & 6.
  •   Stacy Scalfaro named as the Elementary Level School Counselor of the Year for 2016-17.  Mrs. Scalfaro was selected for this recognition based upon the innovation she brings to her position, her leadership and service, and her use of data to provide an excellent school counseling program to the students of William Bryant Elementary School.  This award is open to elementary school counselors from the State of Missouri; to be selected is a high honor in the school counseling profession.
  • Walsworth publishing superior performance yearbook awards to PKMS and BSHS
  •  Jennifer Ewan, FCHS, has been selected as the September winner of the Read to Achieve Award.  This is a project sponsored by Missouri NEA and KCTV 5. The goal is to give the general public an opportunity to honor teachers that use reading to improve student learning.
  •   Elizabeth (Besty) Klausen, BSSHS, National Merit Semi-finalist
  •   Jaguar Pride takes 2nd at Bands of America in Georgia.
  • BSSHS JROTC placed 1st at the Wentworth Military Academy Raider Meet
  •   LFE and WYE named MO Gold Star Schools
  • ACT State Average-20.2 BSSHS-21.8 BSHS-21.5
  • Transportation received highest inspection grade
  • Transportation receives 25th consecutive safety award (only district in MO)
  • LFE and WYE named National Blue Ribbon Schools (out of only 8 total schools from MO!) (LFE was a Blue Ribbon School in 1996 as well.)
  •   BSSHS Softball Coach Kristi Williams named the 2016 NAIA Coach of Character
  • BSSD is Silver Level Healthy KC Organization for promoting a culture of health and wellness
  • Luke Eaton and Logan Peterson named National Commended Scholars from BSSHS and Gabe Englehart, Ante Plecas, Lukas Steffek and Kaitlyn Springate from BSHS
  • BSSHS has a National Merit Semifinalist-Elizabeth “Betsy” Klausen
  • 44,052 items collected during Community Unity Week
  •   BSHS and BSSHS softball teams are district champions
  •   BSSHS girls cross country conference champions
  •   Blue Springs South Softball is ranked 9th in the Nation for Team GPA in the unweighted category. 
  • Madyson McMillan from BSHS named to the US Army All-American Band
  • Transportation receives the highest safety rating, marking the 25th year the longest running maintenance performance rating among school districts in the state of Missouri
  • BSSHS Volleyball Coach Dave MacLean named the 2016 Greater Kansas City Volleyball Association Coach of the Year
  • BSHS STEM Computer Science Teacher Kevin Clevenger named the Computer Science Teacher of the Year
  • 2nd in 4A and 5th overall-BSHS Golden Regiment-Bands of America Super Regional
  • DESE Annual Performance Report-99.6%
  • BSHS Mike Hagerty inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame
  • BSSHS Cheerleaders win state championship
