Mrs. Tara Jackson

My name is Tara Jackson and I will be your child's kindergarten teacher this year.  You and I will be spending more time with your child in the upcoming school year than any other adult.  Because of this, I'd like to take this  opportunity to tell you a few thigs about myself, both personally and professionally.

I was born in the Kansas City area and graduated from Truman high School in 1996.  I recieved my BS degree in Early Childhood Education from Missouri State University (SMSU) in 2001.  In 2003, I recieved my Masters Degree in Teaching from Webster University.  Since then, I have taken 42 hours of graduate coursework to continue to grow in my knowledge in education.  I taught first grade in Independence for 2 years before coming here to Blue Springs in 2003.  For 3 years I was a literacy coach.  It was a very fulfilling job, but I realized my true passion for teaching lies in the classroom, so I made the move back to first grade in 2009.  In 2013, I was asked to teach kindergarten and love everything about it!!

My husband is very supportive of my teaching career.  He has been known to stop by the classroom occasionally so they might mention Mr. Jackson from time-to-time.  We have been married for 14 years.  We have a ten year old son (Camden) who will be in the 6th grade this year at PKMS.  My son has Aspergers Syndrome, an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  When we got his diagnosis, I took many hours in autism integration classes and learned so much about kids on the Autism spectrum.  He is doing amazing to this day and is mainstreamed almost 100% of his day at PKMS.  I could not be more proud of him.  I also have a seven year old daughter (Katelyn) who will be in second grade here at SPE and a 1 year old baby girl (Kenzie) who will be staying with her grandma during the school day.

Learning begins at home.  Your excitement level will hopefully ease your child's anxiety about school.  Talk to your child about school and ask lots of questions, even though you may not always get answers!!  Keep asking:)

I am looking forward to building a relationship with you and your child.  I believe communication between home and school is a very important building block.  Each week you will recieve a newsetter in your child's folder.  Take just a moment to look over the activities we are doing and note the upcoming events.

I am so excited about the new school year and getting to know you and your little one.  Kindergarten is such an important year.  Your child will make new friendships, participate in lots of new activities, and learn many new skills.
