Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Howard E. Ward
After graduating high school I went to Eastern Oklahoma State College and received an Associate of Science Degree in Parks and Recreation Management. I worked for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the National Forest Service before enrolling at Missouri State where I majored in Outdoor Recreation and Education, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1980. Upon graduation I taught a Learn To Camp program for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and found that I really enjoyed the dynamics of the teaching/learning process.
A tour of duty in the U.S. Army allowed me to garner the funds needed to go back to school and become a teacher. I majored in Earth Science and minored in Middle School Science at the University of Central Missouri and got my teaching certification in 1986. Since that time I have continued my own education and have a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (UCM 1995) plus 40 graduate hours.
I am a life-long runner and cyclist and have coached cross country and track for more than 20 years. My favorite runs are trail marathons and obstacle course races. I have been happily married to my wife Lisa for 28 years, have two grown sons, a daughter-in-law and a grandaughter.
