Elementary Student collects cans for Community Unity WeekEach year, the Blue Springs School District celebrates Community Unity Week in the fall. Coinciding with the annual Blue Springs vs. Blue Springs South football game, Community Unity Week is a chance for BSSD students, staff and the entire BSSD family to come together in donating items to the Community Services League. This year, students combined to provide for CSL, which has had requests for supplies during the ongoing pandemic. Schools across the district collected more than 38,440 items and raised over $7,700 in support of CSL, which during the ongoing pandemic,

Blue Springs South student Cole Wagner said the best part about Community Unity Week is the combined effort of the entire area. “Community Unity to us means an opportunity to bring everyone in our community together to help those in need,” he said. “We encompass our schools and local businesses – it’s such a great feeling because we work so closely with these classes and to see everyone step up in this time of great need is especially important.”

James Walker Elementary student Matthew Aragon said helping others is a great feeling. “The canned food drive is very important because we are helping homeless people and people who can’t afford to buy food,” he said. “It really warms my heart because I know this is really going to impact some peoples’ lives.”
