Thanksgiving donationsDuring the Thanksgiving break, families in the Blue Springs School District received the gift of a holiday meal thanks to a partnership with Abundant Life Church. Families have faced unexpected hardships due to COVID-19 and a struggling economy, but through the volunteer effort of Abundant Life members, they were able to enjoy a holiday meal complete with turkey and several side dishes. Volunteers from Abundant Life distributed the meal boxes to schools for family pick-up, or in some cases, delivered to students’ homes.

District social worker Amber Grice said the church reaching out to help those in need is a great holiday gift. “The opportunity to lighten the load for a family during times of uncertainty is a wonderful thing,” she said. “The purpose is to give the families all of the ingredients they need to prepare a Thanksgiving meal in their own home.”

Abundant Life Blue Springs Campus Pastor Steve Brown said the effort for Blue Springs families sprang from a similar effort the church has done in Lee’s Summit. “We are able to support 150 families in Blue Springs, Fort Osage, Grain Valley and Oak Grove,” Brown said. “This is all through volunteers donating items and time to put the boxes together and deliver them if needed. It’s a great effort and people put in a lot of time to make it happen. We are just happy to be able to help out these families and provide some holiday relief for them.”
