USDA Announces Student Eat Free Until Further Notice

Dear BSSD Families,

As we prepare to start school next week, we want to share some news and updates with you from our School and Nutritional Services team. First, the USDA has announced that all students, in-person or distance learners, will eat free of charge until further notice. Free breakfast and lunch meals that are available will be A and B line options. Any a la cart items such as cookies, pizza, French fries, nachos, etc. will require payment as in year’s past. More information and menus may be found on our website.

All in-person students will be issued lunch ID badges. These badges contain a barcode that will be scanned for all lunch transactions, this will allow touchless payment and interaction while in the cafeteria.

Curbside/contactless meal pickup is available for all distance learners. Distance learners will visit the School Café to preorder meals up to seven days in advance. Upon arriving at one of the four pickup sites, you will text the number provided with your student’s name, ID number, and vehicle description. The meal will then be brought to your car. The four district middle schools will be distributing meals to our distance learners. Please order your meal from the middle school that feeds into your attendance area. Available pickup times are as follows:

Brittany Hill Middle School 10:30 -11 a.m., South Side, 816-294-1067

Delta Woods Middle School 10:45-11:15 a.m., West Side, 816-294-6209

Moreland Ridge Middle School 10:15-10:45 a.m., East Side, 816-294-4619

Paul Kinder Middle School 10:30-11 a.m., East Side, 816-294-1729

Check out this video for more information.

As always, your student may bring their lunch from home. More information, free and reduced meal applications, along with instructions to load money on your student’s lunch account, may be found on the School Café.  Please call your school with questions.
