Ann Gibler

This is my first year at Sunny Pointe Elementary. I want to take the chance to introduce myself and our counseling program. Every student in the school participates and benefits from our counseling program through classroom, small group, and individual work. I describe my role to the students as a problem-solving partner. Outside of our scheduled time in classroom and small-group settings, they can check in with me to help with a variety of things that might impact their school experience including when they have things weighing on their mind, when they are experiencing change and transition, and classroom or social difficulties that are impacting their ability to feel comfortable at school.

I will be visiting your student’s classroom several times this year to work on components of our counseling curriculum focused on three student growth areas: academic development, career development, and social/emotional development. In addition to the whole-class activities, some topics work best in a small group or individual format. Small groups are often designed for students who are experiencing similar life events or classroom challenges and could benefit from peer support. Example topics include processing grief, friendship-building, social skills, conflict resolution, appropriate coping choices, and problem-solving skills.

If you ever have any questions about what your student is working on, or would like to discuss changes (both positive and negative), challenges, or concerns about your student, please feel free to communicate with me.
