  • Sunny Pointe Elementary First Quarter Report

    Dear Sunny Pointe Elementary,

What an outstanding first quarter at Sunny Pointe Elementary! Your child’s success is our number one priority. We are thankful you made your parent teacher conference a priority! Our theme this year is ‘Everyone Belongs at SPE’. We want our students, parents, and staff to feel like SPE is their home away from home. We hope you felt that way during your conference and your child feels that way each day. If you have any concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher or me. Together we can accomplish so much!

The school quarterly report is designed to give you targeted information about the previous quarter that ties directly into our school vision, mission, and goals.

    First Quarter Accomplishments:

    • Recognizing our Students of the Month for respect and responsibility
    • Recognizing our students with perfect attendance
    • 1st Place in the BSSD Community Unity Week Food Drive
    • Collecting $1,564.55 for United Way
    • Collecting over 400 pairs of socks in honor of Socktober for The Closet
    • Training 39 peer leaders through the I Am Noticed Program
    • Puma Pride Singers singing ‘God Bless America’ at the Maverick’s home opener
    • 4th grade putting on a wonderful jazz performance for the school and community
    • Welcoming district instructional consultant Matt Glover into our building to provide professional development to BSSD teachers. It’s powerful for our kids to see their teachers learning!
    • Welcoming district instructional consultant Greg Tang for an informative math parent night!
    • Welcoming over 500 grandparents and special friends into our building
    • Unveiling the amazing collaborative art created by all students in art class

    Positive Behavior Supports:

    • The staff and students at Sunny Pointe Elementary practice school-wide Positive Behavioral Supports. As part of a district initiative, we’ve established ‘I am a Respectful, Responsible Learner’ expectations for behavior at SPE.
    • At the start of the school year, we taught our students the behavioral expectations and throughout the year will recognize them for appropriate behavior. You should ask your child, “What are the expectations at Sunny Pointe?” and “Show me the expectations in the _________ (insert a location)”.
    • Staff uses data to make decisions regarding school behavior expectations. A PBS school provides consistent rewards and interventions for all students.
    • Things you can do to help…
      • Schedule doctor and dental appointments so that your child can attend at least part of each school day. This will allow your student to check in with the teacher(s) to turn in assignments as well as pick up new assignments for that day.
      • Schedule all vacations and trips for long weekends or holidays.
      • Communicate the importance of regular school attendance to your child so they are hearing the same thing we are saying at school.
      • Make sure students are regularly eating nutritious meals and drinking plenty of fluids. Remind students of proper hand washing/sanitizing techniques to prevent illness.

Thank you for your support in all areas! I appreciate you and look forward to an exciting 2nd quarter!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Gengelbach
