FSE Celebrates the 100th Day of School
Franklin Smith kindergarteners enjoyed the 100th day of school in geriatric fashion. Students brought 100 Day posters, made 100 day snacks, participated in the 100 Day Parade (with many parents cheering and snapping pictures), counted to 100 numerous times, and of course dressed-up like 100 year olds. Some students took the part of being 100 years old seriously by using their canes to help them get around and you could hear “oh, my hip hurts” from all four kindergarten classrooms. The kindergarten teachers even joined the fun!

FSE “Literacy Night on the Town”
Franklin Smith Elementary celebrated their love of literacy and encouraged family participation in literacy activities at home by hosting “Literacy Night on the Town”. There were over 482 people in attendance which included 225 FSE students. Everyone in attendance received a free spaghetti dinner in the Bistro (over 500 breadsticks were consumed). Throughout the school families could enjoy the K-5 writing gallery, reader’s theater performances, learn how to use and find electronic literacy resources at home, get “into the book” in the Fancy Nancy room, as well as sit around the campfire with Mark Twain, and much more! Each student left with a free book and all in attendance were entered into the raffle. There were 23 raffle give-aways from 7 local business partners. The entire staff pulled together to make this event memorable and worthwhile. Literacy awareness definitely filtered out into the neighborhood and beyond FSE’s doors because of this amazing night.

The students started the day by listening to Mr. Doll’s traveling Alaskan show. Mr. Doll travled to Alaska over the summer on his motorcycle. He showed the kids his gear that is necessary to survive on the open road. Mr. Doll also shared pictures of his trip. The special class teachers taught the students how to line dance and took all of the students on a hayride. Fun was had by all at FSE!
